Bad news....

By the beginning of May I decided to relocate some of my pu-erh to more humid more natural location.

Yesterday I got it back home.

And I saw… mould.

I will write more later, including photos. Now I feel only sorrow.

Oh, I am so sad to hear this- I was really hoping root-cellar style storage would work.
My condolences.

Sorry to hear, but hill side, stone walls, and high humidity are what Hong Kong tea merchants used to make wet storage tea cakes. Hopefully, your nice cakes are not too seriously affected.

Perhaps it is too early to give the death sentence. If the mould is not much on the surface of the cake , then maybe it is possible to clean them off or cut away the affected parts only.

I am sorry to hear about what happened, nevertheless.

Thank you all. Today I threw 7 kilo of great pu-erh into trash bin.

My fault. There was no way to save the tea.
